The Work Is for People who Don’t Like to Be Told What to Do

If you approach a duck, it will probably fly away.

I’m the The Same

If you approach me too strongly, or want to help me, I tend to run away.

But it doesn’t mean I don’t need help. And it’s exactly why The Work resonated with me so strongly when I found it.

The Work is a powerful way for me to help myself. I get to maintain the illusion of control while dismantling my own belief system. It’s brilliant! I would never let someone else get close enough to tinker with me on such a deep level.

The Work Gives Me Complete Control

I can go as deep as a want. I can stop when I want. I can choose the topic that I want. And I can accept or reject any turnaround that I find. I am totally in the driver’s seat.

And when I work with a facilitator, I know that they are not going to give me advice. And I can even tell them to pipe down if they are talking too much.

This work is the most in-control way I know of shifting me out of stuckness. And that’s why it works for me. Because I don’t like being told what to do. 🙂

But That’s Just a Start

The more I do The Work, the more I become open to being told what to do. And the more effective any other form of “help” starts to be. The world starts to be my teacher when I open to it.

I was working with someone last week who had written a worksheet on someone trying to help her. Her friend said, “You don’t need to do The Work. I can tell you exactly what your issue is.”

This was stressful for my client because it smacked of being told what to do.

Her Turnarounds Led Elsewhere

Through her work, she discovered that her friend “should tell me what to do” because that has been his path. That is what has worked for him. He sought out others who could tell him what was wrong with him and help him in this more traditional way. And it worked.

He just wanted to pass on what he learned to her.

Suddenly, the resistance stopped inside her. And she felt love for him. And it didn’t mean she had to give up what worked for her.

I love that there is room in this world for many different ways of finding truth.

Have a great week,
