How to do The Work and Exercise Together

duck flapping its wings
If you’re a duck, it’s easy to get exercise. If you’re human, it’s not always so easy.

Here’s An Interesting Idea

A friend of mine came up with this way of doing The Work and getting exercise. She’s been doing it for years. It may not work for everyone (especially if you are easily distracted).

But I thought it was a cool idea for combining two regular activities: one mental, one physical.

Try Doing The Work on a Walk

If you happen to have a friend who lives near you, who likes to walk regularly and who likes to do The Work regularly, then doing The Work on regular walks is an option.

For the rest of us, here’s an alternative.

Take a dictaphone (old-fashioned word for voice recorder app on your smartphone) with you while you walk. Take a completed Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet with you.

While you walk, ask yourself the four questions and find turnarounds and examples for as many concepts as you have time for. Speak your answers into your dictaphone.

Pretty Simple

Pretty cool use of time too. By the end of your walk, you’ll have exercised your body and your mind.

It helps if you have the four questions memorized. And it helps if you are familiar with how to find the turnarounds. This may also work better for you if you tend to pace when you think.

Try it Out

I”m curious to hear your experience with it. Do you find it too distracting? Does it work for you? Let me know.

If you want more practice finding turnarounds, join us for The Work 101, where we go deeply into the science and art of turnarounds.

Have a great week,
Todd
